It’s SO Simple Ramadan Meals and Exercises

Rachael Sacerdoti, Founder of It’s SO Simple, debunks myths and weight loss trends that are popular to some of those who are fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Myth # 1:  Working out before breaking the fast burns more fats

Although working out before eating can be beneficial, Rachael encourages caution during Ramadan.  It is important to be kind to and listen to the body.  Doing light exercise before Iftar is fine, but a heavy workout would be better left until just after breaking the fast before the main Iftar meal, which should of course be a balanced light meal.  Not only will you not have eaten, but you will be dehydrated and we do not want to overstress our bodies.

Rather than working out after Suhour, she suggests waking a little earlier and doing your workout before you eat Suhour.  That way, one can gain the benefit of eating after the workout, and ensure taking on some hydration after the workout and before embarking on the day of fasting.

Rachael suggests not to overdo things and to listen to your body, but don’t let the fasting become an excuse not to train. She has put together a set of routine that one can follow: Ramadan workout

  • 20 x Reverse lunge twist hop (10 repetitions per side)
  • 10 x Walkouts to 4 shoulder taps
  • 12 x Pop squats
  • 10 x Jab, jab, hook, hook, knee, knee
  • 20 x Oblique crunch (10 repetitions per side)
  • 24 x Fire hydrant to kickback (12 repetitions per side)
  • 24 x Curtsy lunge pulse (12 repetitions per side)
  • 30 x Mountain climbers
  • 24 x Crunch opposite toe touch (12 repetitions per leg)
  • 30 x Jumping jacks
  • 16 x Commandos (8 per arm)
  • 15 x Bent leg jackknife
  • Repeat 3 circuits with a 30 second break between each set.

Myth #2:  Eating one meal at Ramadan can make you lose weight

“I would never encourage anyone to eat one meal per day,” says Rachael.  “The key to weight loss is running a calorie deficit, by that we mean consuming fewer calories than we burn.  I believe that this should be done by eating light balanced meals and even small snacks.  The key to a healthy lifestyle is to find a sustainable way of living, something that we can maintain over a long period of time.  Similarly over the fasting period, spread your calorie intake across the time when eating and drinking are permitted.”

For Suhour, Rachael recommends one of It’s SO Simple overnight oats recipes:  Apple and Cinnamon Overnight Oats.  It is a delicious recipe which is rich in fibre, filled with protein, and keeps you fuller for longer and easy to put together.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup unsweetened milk
  • ½ cup old fashioned oats
  • Vanilla
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Diced apple

Preparation:

  • In a bowl, mix together milk, vanilla and spices.
  • Stir in the oats.
  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate overnight.
  • Serve with diced apple and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Iftar meals shouldn’t be too heavy and should be filled with vegetables and protein since they have fasted all day.  She recommends White Chicken Chili, a light meal filled with vegetables and protein and can be served with brown or cauliflower rice.

Ingredients:

  • Spray oil
  • 1 Onion
  • 4 spoons green chili jalapenos
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1.5 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp dried coriander
  • 2 cans chickpeas
  • 1.5 lbs. chicken thighs/breast
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Cilantro to garnish

Preparation:

  • Heat spray oil in a pan and add onion, green chilis, chili powder, cumin, oregano and coriander.
  • Mix and cook until the onion soften.
  • Add chickpeas, chicken broth, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer until the chicken is cooked through.
  • Remove and shred chicken.
  • Add the chicken back to the stock, add lime juice and cilantro.
  • In a blender, add chickpeas and water. Blitz until smooth. Add to the pot and stir.
  • Serve with a side of your choice (i.e. brown rice or cauliflower rice)

“The key with everything and in particular during Ramadan is to pay attention to what your body is telling you,” Rachael concludes.

It’s SO Simple maximises the potential of a short amount of exercise and relies on two fundamental ideas – consuming less calories than you burn whilst increasing muscle mass.  Over the course of 12 weeks, participants will be provided with personal consultation, online exercises, nutritional meal plans including grocery shopping list and recipes, progress tracking, and be part of a private group of women going through a fitness journey. Island resorts leading recovery in global leisure travel

  • Emirates increases weekly schedule to Maldives & Seychelles over Easter holidays as Middle East demand soars
  • Sri Lanka, Cyprus and Greek islands also preparing for summer influx of international arrivals

Island resorts around the world will lead the recovery in leisure travel, according to research carried out ahead of Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2021, which will be in a hybrid format, with the in-person event taking place on 16-19 May at the Dubai World Trade Centre and the virtual event to be held the following week, on 24-26 May.

Many island economies are dependent on tourism and nowhere is this more apparent than in the Indian Ocean islands of the Maldives (28% of GDP) and the Seychelles (over 55% of GDP), which are both expecting a bumper Easter holiday period. With both islands less than four hours 30 minutes away, Emirates has added an extra four flights taking its weekly schedule to 28 flights.

Meanwhile, Air Seychelles is launching a weekly flight to Dubai to cope with the increased demand, which is in addition to two extra flights a week that Emirates is adding to its existing schedule of five weekly flights to Mahe.

“Both islands tick all of the proverbial boxes for tourists,” said Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market. “Even though demand maybe pent-up, visitors will still want direct flights, easy access, reasonable restrictions, low COVID cases, good vaccination rates, open and in some cases isolated resorts, with a natural environment including quiet beaches,” added Curtis.

The Maldives is expecting to have its 500,000 inhabitants vaccinated by August and with less than 100,000 citizens, the Seychelles is hoping for 100% vaccination within the coming months.

And although both countries have a list of approved countries, the Seychelles and the Maldives only require visitors to provide a negative PCR test 72 or 96 hours respectively, prior to arrival, no proof of vaccination or quarantine is required.

“And after a standard temperature check upon arrival at the hotel, guests in the Maldives can roam freely, they only need to wear a mask indoors, with similar restrictions applicable in the Seychelles,” added Curtis.

However, many travel professionals feel that the real game changer is that both countries will accept any fully vaccinated visitors. And with the global rollout expected to accelerate, as more vaccines are approved and manufactured, island nations will be the catalyst for increased international leisure travel.

Other islands with great potential for the Middle East’s outbound market are Sri Lanka, Cyprus and the Greek islands. Emirates and Etihad operate seven flights a week to Colombo and visitors need a negative PCR test 96 hours before arrival and then two further tests within the next seven days. The Sri Lankan government aims to have the entire country of over 21 million vaccinated by the end of 2021, currently that figure stands at around 500,000.

“With three weekly flights from Dubai, Cyprus is another interesting case and from April, it will welcome Israeli tourists who have had both vaccination doses,” said Curtis.

The Greek authorities aim to vaccinate the vast majority of their 10.35 million population by this summer (more than 725,000 have been vaccinated so far) to help revive their tourism sector and again Greece is well connected with five weekly flights between Dubai and Athens.

Exhibitors from island territories participating at ATM this year include the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, Greek National Tourism Organisation, Cyprus Ministry of Tourism, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, Philippines Department of Tourism and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, among others.

Now in its 28th year and working in collaboration with DWTC and Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the theme of ATM 2021 will be ‘A new dawn for travel and tourism’.

ATM 2021’s strategic partners include Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) as Destination Partner, Emaar Hospitality Group as Official Hotel Partner and Emirates as Official Airline Partner.

Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world to visit with a wide range of precautionary measures in place to ensure the safety of tourists at every stage and touchpoint of their travel journey, from arrival to departure.

Dubai’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety and its effective citywide management of the pandemic received a strong endorsement from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), which gave the city a ‘Safe Travels’ stamp.

Sunway Resort is the centrepiece hospitality development at Sunway City Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA– Sunway City Kuala Lumpur has earmarked USD60 million for a tantalising transformation of its flagship property, Sunway Resort, in a bold drive to establish the urban destination as Asia’s leading integrated resort complex and a regional tourism hub.

Pioneering Sunway Group’s investment in Sunway Resort is the most extensive initiative in the resort’s 25-year history and sets out a visionary remodelling for a premier hospitality and entertainment development that will create a new benchmark for business and leisure experiences in the region for decades to come.

“It is time, it is as simple as that,” said Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group. “We built Sunway City Kuala Lumpur with Sunway Resort at its heart. But now we need to step into the future as we embrace a new generation of leisure and business guests and bring together Sunway City Kuala Lumpur as one fully-integrated premier hospitality and entertainment destination that will rival the very best in the world.

One of the truly unique aspects of Sunway Resort is how it has tailored specific room categories to certain types of guest, such as business travellers, families and wellness seekers. The Premium Leisure Club is dedicated to parents, who can relax with afternoon tea while their children play in the Wonderland Kids Club, which is located directly below and promises an amazing array of entertaining and educational activities, with a focus on sustainability. Alternatively, Aquaventure Playland is designed with innovation in mind, a bright and functional outdoor water play area where kids can splash away and have seamless experience all day long.

The new Family Fun Suite features a multi-player game console with big screens

Sustainability is a driving philosophy of Sunway, and many of the hotel’s high-tech upgrades, such as advanced air-conditioning systems, smart curtains, solar panels, motion-sensor LED lighting and new water technologies, will further improve its efficiency. Plastic bags have been abolished and an urban hydroponic farm by SunwayFutureX will supply healthy, farm-fresh produce to the resort’s restaurants.

“Sunway Resort is an icon of Malaysian hospitality. Ever since we opened in 1996, this hotel has wowed leisure and business guests from around the world,” said Alex Castaldi, Senior General Manager of Sunway City Kuala Lumpur Hotels, including Sunway Resort, Sunway Pyramid Hotel and Sunway Clio Hotel. “We are now very excited to begin another stage in our journey, with a fully-integrated product offering I am confident will set a new benchmark for integrated resort and entertainment destinations in the region.”

DUBAI-BASED TOP BRIDAL DESIGNER LABEL HUMARIFF LAUNCHES CAPSULE COLLECTION TO CELEBRATE CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN THE UAE

-Lawyer-turned-designer Tamam Humariff plans to create flexible buying options for brides-to-be-

UAE-based bridal wear designer Tamam Humariff launched her latest bridal collection last night 25th January 2021 at a glittering private preview at her atelier located at Al Wasl 5 and was attended by the fashion house’s private clientele, influencers and media. The 16-piece capsule collection includes evening dresses in colorful tones of blues, purple, green and red, while finishing the evening by presenting her latest all-white bridal wear collection.

“2020 was definitely the toughest year for the fashion industry, most especially the bridal wear as most of the social gatherings are cancelled totally. We are the most hit industry as there were very low to no orders at all. However we believe that 2021 will be a better year for us hence we are launching a capsule collection as a solution for bride-to-be to have a more flexible way of buying or making their dream wedding gown to life.” said Tamam Humariff, Founder and CEO of Humariff Fashion House

Humariif predicted that 2021 will be a year of Bridal Maximalist. “People are going to be so ready to party and if you’ve been someone planning their wedding in lockdown it’s going to be even more intense. People seem to be less worried about budget, ironically, and in a bit more of a ‘let’s get to it’ mood. There’s an uptick in people really going for it and being adventurous. Wear things that are over the top to celebrate” with “a new focus on glamour over minimalism.” added Humariff

Humariff’s 2021 Capsule Wedding Collection is inspired by the ‘Fairies of the Enchanted Forest’ which symbolizes transformation and adventure which is what the Year 2021 wedding industry is all about. Humariff added colourful hues to the couture wedding gowns, party dresses and evening wears.

“The year 2021 is going to be exciting for our industry and that is why I plan to create a collection that captures the beauty of the UAE – the diversity of culture and its people. This country is the melting pot of different cultures and traditions and that is what makes it so unique. My collection is not just for a specific group or community – it is for everyone who wants to celebrate an imperative union of love.” added Humariff

Chinese Village – Sea View Hotel Dubai

Chinese Village - Sea View Hotel Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Chinese Village is amongst those few restaurants in Dubai where you can find an extensive range of Chinese & fusion dishes in their menu. Got to try some very delicious Chinese dishes few days back as I was invited at their newly furbished Restaurant. They had arranged a set menu for the day.

The dishes included soup, starters,& Mains .

The elegance of interior and color scheme with a touch of indoor plantation is quite inviting after its renovation.

We started with the Manchow Soup. Enjoyed sipping on the delectable soup with the crunchiness of the noodles added on top of it.

Here is the detail of all the delicious dishes which we tried there ……

Starters:

Crispy Spinach Chicken –  marinated boneless chicken was served with finely chopped fried spinach. The combination was good.

Assorted Dimsums – dimsums were done with Prawn & Chicken Tikka flavors. I liked the twist of chicken tikka dimsum.

Prawns Crushed Chilli –  must try these prawns coated with a mild and perfect marination alongwith vegetables. Great tasting dish!

Main Course:

Chicken Jade Sauce – Chef at Chinese Village is such an expert in preparing amazing sauces and marinades for the dishes. This recipe was also one of those.

Fish Black Pepper Sauce – Soft fish coated generously with black pepper sauce was so delish.

Mix-Veg Black Pepper Sauce – if you fancy eating a good mixed vegetables dish in a delectable gravy with Jasmine rice as a side, go for it!

Vegatable Thai Red Curry – this Thai dish is one of my favorites. Boneless chicken pieces and vegetables in creamy delicious gravy is another tastiest addition in their menu.

Jasmine Rice &  Veg Bambo Rice – beautifully presented vegetable rice in bamboo serving.

Veg Tapan Soba – I had Noodles with vegetable black pepper sauce.

we had a great variety on our table. Each and every dish was irresistible. As they offer parcels, & home delivery service so we had our dishes packed for home to enjoy. They have plans to offer Sushi at their live  sushi counter in the restaurant. I will definitely revisit to experience the sushi. Prices are also very reasonable. Chinese tea is also a pleasurable & healthy break in between the meals.

Avocado Tartine Masterclass at Le Pain Quotidien Dubai Marina Mall

Le Pain Quotidien Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato I was invited for a funfilled & indulgent evening at Le Pain Quotidien for food masterclass.

Dubai Marina Mall location has an indoor and outdoor setup with marina views. The restaurant has wooden décor, wall to wall shelves with a display of their jams and other condiments.

Every participant walked away with a Goodie bag with their special sourdough bread & fig jam. The bread can be refrigerated and baked when required.

Memsaab Curry & Tandoor Restaurant JLT Dubai

Memsaab Curry & Tandoor - ممساب كري و تندور Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato I still remember my last visit at Memsaab restaurant in Healthcare City. when I was asked to come over for a review at their JLT outlet I got excited to try some more tempting options in their menu. For the location I will give 5/5 as any restaurant with a view is my first preference if I have to choose. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and obviously we sat outside.

We were offered refreshing Jaljeera shots.

In starter we had Ajwaini Fish Tikka which was too good. I enjoyed it with green yogurt dip.

For the mains both our selections made our day. I had the most flavorful Lalmaas ( mutton curry) & Mutton Biryani. Do try these items if you visit them. Assorted chappatis to go with curry. In the basket we had lachha paratha, garlic & plain chappati.

Our sweet dish was kheer, however the dessert did not impress much as the rest of the menu.

You can ask for hot and cold beverage of your choice. They also have fresh juices in the menu.

Overall it was a good experience including service . I would recommend visiting them for a good dinner experience.
