• Montegrappa commemorates 50 years since the first moon landing with a limited edition collection of writing instruments inspired by the Saturn V rocket design.

  • One unique piece, commissioned for the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, celebrates the UAE’s first manned mission to space this September. The pen will be on display in the Montegrappa boutique in Dubai Mall for the month of July.

On July 16, 1969, the United States launched Apollo 11 toward the moon with the goal of landing two astronaut explorers on the lunar surface four days later.  This successful mission accomplished mankind’s dream of walking on another celestial body.

50 years on, inspired by this mission, in a licensed collaboration with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), luxury goods company Montegrappa, has reproduced the iconic Saturn V rocket, interpreted as a writing instrument made in a three-dimensional effect of the rocket body’s First, Second and Third “stages”.

Montegrappa has issued a limited edition of 53 pens in solid 18k gold and titanium commemorating the 50th anniversary of this historic event, and 473 pens in resin and sterling silver.  The Moon Landing Collection arrives in a magnificent enclosure in the form of an Apollo 11 capsule in a special collector’s display case.

As well as being the Year of Tolerance, 2019 also will mark the year of the first UAE National in space, a project managed and executed by Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC). In September later this year, UAE Astronaut Hazzaa Al Mansouri, along with the mission’s main crew Roscosmos commander Oleg Skripochka, and American astronaut, Jessica Meir will be launched into space aboard a Soyuz MS 15 spacecraft.

With this mission, and its quest for knowledge and learning, MBRSC is taking a leap into the future, whilst writing a new chapter in history of the UAE.

Montegrappa is marking this significant event in the history of the UAE by creating a one-of-a-kind fountain pen dedicated to MBRSC. The design of the pen is based on the Moonlanding Limited Edition inspired by the ‘Saturn V’, however this unique piece features a UAE flag, the letters ‘UAE’ on the barrel, and the logo of MBRSC on the cap. The nib is adorned with a portrait of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whose vision of the future of the UAE has made this possible.   This bespoke pen has been designed by Montegrappa’s talented craftsman and will be presented to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre ahead of their Soyuz MS 15 spacecraft mission in September 2019.

“The leadership of the visionary leaders of the UAE has helped Montegrappa thrive in this region and we have always shown our gratitude in the form of special editions of writing instruments themed around various elements of this country. In 2017 we launched the ‘Ishy Bilady’ collection celebrating the country’s National Anthem, and last year we launched the ‘Year of Zayed’ pen celebrating the founding father’s life, work and vision of prosperity, tolerance and peace. With this special pen made for MBRSC, we at Montegrappa celebrate the UAE’s first step into space and a leap into the future” said Charles Nahhas, Montegrappa’s Middle East Distributor.

Speaking of this gesture from Montegrappa, Salem AL Marri Assistant DG at MBRSC said: “We are delighted to receive this special memento from Montegrappa which reminds us that everything we are able to achieve comes from the vision of our great leaders to create a country in which we value education, scientific exploration and push the limits of human progress. Mankind’s ability to reason, to write and pass our learnings and values through generations is at the core of this philosophy. In the words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ‘The pen and knowledge are mightier than all other powers’.

This unique pen is not for sale, but will be on display at the Montegrappa boutique in the UAE throughout the month of July 2019, following which it will be presented to Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre for display to commemorate this special event.

Swedish Furniture giant, IKEA, launched today its all-new 2020 Catalogue at an event in its Dubai Festival City Mall store. This year’s catalogue theme is ‘A fresh start’ and focuses on how important mental and physical rest is for people to feel happy and live life to the fullest.

IKEA has four upcoming seasonal launches, The Autumn Launch in the 2020 catalogue is about a fresh start as it’s when the holiday period is over, people go back to their offices and kids begin the new year at school. The Winter Launch is all about ‘celebration and joy’ and how to transform your home to make space for its ever-changing members and activities. Meanwhile the Spring Launch encourages people to have a ‘conscious home’ with innovative new IKEA products that can be repurposed, repaired, reused, resold, and recycled. Finally, the Summer Launch looks at ‘expanded homes’ and having fun with the great outdoors.

At the event, IKEA also announced the results of its independent online survey that delved into the UAE’s most popular scents and how they make people feel. Gathering results from over 4,000 respondents across the UAE, the survey revealed that residents prefer fresh scents with zesty, minty and fruity notes, with 55% respondents saying these triggered a feeling of happiness.

Seventy-three per cent of respondent answered they preferred fresh scents as opposed to warm, woody and spicy scents. When it came to objects that people loved the smell of, 60% of participants called out the fresh smell of a new book, with 40% saying they enjoyed the scent of a fresh new catalogue, stating the smell of a catalogue made them feel excited (35%), happy (19%) or relaxed (17%). More than a third (37%) of people said their top scent was fruity fresh, with 29% stating that they loved zesty fresh fragrances.

Following the research, IKEA worked with a perfumer to create a scent inspired by the feeling of freshness to tie in with the launch of its new 2020 catalogue as well as the research findings.  The scent featured various fresh top notes including Kiwi, mandarin, guava and pomegranate and base notes including blackberry, sandalwood and musk.

Lucky guests that attended the exclusive 2020 catalogue launch were given a limited-edition ‘fresh start’ fragrance to enjoy in their own homes and as a keepsake from the event.

The IKEA 2020 catalogue is available in store now and online.

Masala Wok – Al Nahda Dubai

Masala Wok Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Last Week had my lunch at this Desi-Chinese restaurant. This hidden outlet in Al Nahda area is packed with customers during lunch and dinner hours.

The dishes are carefully crafted by the expert chefs under the supervision of passionate owner himself. The menu is comprised of delicious items both Chinese & Desi. I got to try few starters followed by main course.

Shikanji Drink is a great selection specially in these hot summer days with a mix of Jaljeera & Lemon. They also offer a refreshing welcome drink before you indulge yourself in their delectable items. You can also have freshly made juices from the menu.

The palatable bowl of warm Monchow Soup is so filling and flavorful enjoyed with crunchy fried noodles that were served along side.

It took me few minutes to devour those Tandoori Prawns dipping into green mint chutney. Very few outlets serve such perfection in grilled & tandoori dishes. Masala Wok is one of them.

The other special item is called Chef’s Special Chicken Kebab. Chicken Tikkas are done so perfect. I had Chicken mixed grill where Chicken skewers were grilled in different marinations ……. Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Sailabi Tikka, Chicken Malai Tikka & a lot more is in the menu to select. I would say do go for his dish! All marinations are great tasting.

And if you are in a mood of Chinese, you have great choices here. I had Chicken Wontons.

In mains I opted for the Dal Makhani with Garlic Bread & Lachha Naan. Both go amazingly well with creamy so flavorful Dal Makhani.

Chinese main course option was the irresistible bowl of Seafood Noodles.

I had sizzling mouthwatering Brownie & Ice-cream dessert hot sauce poured over the scoop making it so delightful. But you can also opt for desi desserts as well.

The menu is very reasonably priced. They also offer home delivery. So do enjoy the variations of Chinese & Desi menu.

Zenofer Fathima continues directorial stint with short domestic thriller ‘A Dark Tale’

Following a long break from film directing, Zenofer Fathima has taken the off-screen route anew with the domestic thriller ‘A Dark Tale’. This chilling short film, which officially premiered  at Marriott Hotel in Al Jaddaf, Dubai, aims to raise awareness of the realities of domestic partner violence being a leading contributor to illness, disability and premature death for women.

“It’s an ugly truth that is not being taken seriously until now. Some still have the mindset that family violence is a mere relationship problem that should be kept private. When in fact it’s a twisted reality, where women especially are made to believe that love and pain go hand in hand. It is rarely discussed in polite company but is prevalent everywhere. Domestic violence and abuse across all age, race and economic boundaries is a concern and ‘A Dark Tale’ aims to expose and examine this crucial issue,” Zenofer said.

‘A Dark Tale’ depicts a day in the life of a young couple who seem to have the perfect marriage. An ordinary, innocuous conversation at home between the two quickly gets contentious as it turned out the husband has some serious control and rage issues. The next scenes proved to be tragic, excellently capturing the horror of domestic partner violence.

“This film is a realization of my dream to enrich public discussion about domestic violence. Domestic violence is not something to be easily dismissed because if we allow it to happen even once, the abuse can progress to higher levels of intensity. A nurturing husband and wife relationship should always be the ultimate goal because it is the foundation that will make the family as the bedrock of society. I’m happy that I can use my passion for filmmaking to contribute to our awareness of serious issues like this and create empathy for the victims, while holding perpetrators of abuse accountable for their behaviour,” Zenofer further commented.

Zenofer uses her own film production outfit, ZEN Productions, to create short movies with timely messages meant to push social good forward. Her directorial debut, The Peril, which received praises from all quarters, sent an important wake-up call to parents about cyberbullying. It portrayed how the internet puts children at risk of online harassment and other forms of violence and harm. More often, Zenofer takes on the dual role of actor-producer to ensure that the creativity and overall vision of her film projects are realized.

The Grove Restaurant – Al Zorah Ajman

The Grove Restaurant - Al Zorah Golf Club Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

The Grove, a Levantine restaurant is situated in Al Zorah Pavilion Ajman. This hidden spot offer spectacular sunset view with an Arabic menu on offer & a classy ambiance with both indoor & outdoor dining arrangements where you can spend your time overlooking Mangroves.

Families can have a relaxing time with dinner & Shisha while your kids enjoy their time & are well taken care of in Kids Play area. Indoor setup has refreshing vibes with greenery & floral décor perfect for Summer time.

Middle Eastern cuisine has always been my favorite. My option from the menu were the top favorite few items which are widely consumed in every Levantine restaurant ……… Hummus, Fattoush, Spicy Potaoto & Mixed Grill Platter.

These delectable options were not less in portion, quality & taste at all. If you are new to try Levantine Cuisine , do give a try to these cubed Spicy Potatoes.

Mix Grill consists of soft , juicy Chicken Shish Taouk, Lamb Kebab Orfali, Tikka Meat, Chicken Wings, Lamb Chops served with French Fries & Garlic Mayo. Enjoy the freshly baked hot bread with Hummus & Fattoush.

These above mentioned dishes are commonly found in Emirati restaurants, although taste & presentation varies. Another recommendation from the menu at ‘The Grove’ which made me to add this spot in the best restaurants list experienced so far is their Lamb Shank Biryani.

Do not miss this if you are looking for a soft & flaky Lamb Shank Biryani with flavors so well immersed in meat & rice.
Not spicy like an authentic Biryani, but still mild as in Emirati Cuisine they do not use much spices.

Other than he traditional items they also offer Pizzas, Pastas & an interesting portion for Kids Menu.

They also have innovative & Fusion dessert options which include Valooda, Chebab, Arabic ice creams, cakes , Kunafa, Umm Ali etc. We had Lotus coated & Chocolate dipped ice cream lollipop.
And another hit item in the dessert menu which is Saffron Milk Cake.

After having our meals, we opted to spend our evening hours at the outside with Shisha & Arabic Coffee.
You can have hot & cold beverages of your choice. Fresh Juices are also available.

A very reasonable place with a peaceful atmosphere to enjoy your weekends. The place is a great value for money & was obvious from the gathering of families & customers as the evening hours started.

Chinese Business Council hosts its annual charity Iftar for labourers in association with Emirates Red Crescent

As part of the Council’s CSR initiative, the charity Iftar served meals to more than 1,000 hardworking labourers

The Chinese Business Council in the UAE, in association with the Emirates Red Crescent, hosted a charitable Iftar for more than 1,000 workers at the Emirates Red Crescent tent in Dubai International City area.

Her Excellency Tan Li, Acting Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai; Zhou Guangyao, Secretary General of the Chinese Business Council in the UAE; Mohammad Abdullah Al Haj Al Zarooni, Director of the Emirates Red Crescent – Dubai centre graced the occasion with their presence at the tent.

The event sponsored by Chinese Business Council along with more than 100 volunteers from major Chinese companies based in the region also received attendance from VIP’s, dignitaries and key officials from the Chinese business community in the region.

“There are more than half a million labourers in the UAE and being able to reach out to at least a portion of them in the Holy Month of Ramadan to embrace the spirit of giving is our way of sharing our blessings with the community,” said Her Excellency Tan Li, Acting Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai.

Chinese Business Council, a non-profit social organization composed of Chinese-funded enterprises and institutions and Chinese companies based in the UAE, aims to enhance the position of Chinese companies based in the region, attract more participants from major companies to invest in the UAE market and to increase their overall market share in various sectors.

“We are honored to associate with Emirates Red Crescent and support their Ramadan initiative. Since the UAE has declared 2019 as the Year of Tolerance, we decided to associate with like-minded organisations ready to contribute considerable resources to benefit the less fortunate and embrace the country’s pioneering initiatives to emerge as a global capital of tolerance,” said Zhou Guangyao, Secretary General of the Chinese Business Council in the UAE

“It is heart-warming to witness the gratefulness expressed by our brothers towards our initiative. This is the second year we have conducted this charitable Iftar as a token of appreciation by developing Chinese companies based in the region and we aim to continue doing so annually,” added Zhou Guangyao, Secretary General of the Chinese Business Council in the UAE.

“Ramadan is a time to express compassion and share your blessings with those in need. We are extremely thankful to the Chinese Business Council and various members of the Chinese business community in the UAE to come forward and join hands in supporting our Ramadan initiative. We are constantly inspired by our visionary leaders to do more and give more to the local community, as they are the ones who have put in all their hard work to position the country where it is today in the international arena. It gives us great pleasure to sit with these workers on the same floor and share an Iftar with them regardless of their ethnicity, cultural background or religious beliefs, and that is the essence of tolerance and co-existence between all nations; its love and peace,” said Mohammad Abdullah Al Haj Al Zarooni, Director of the Emirates Red Crescent – Dubai centre.
