Blogging around in Dubai, introduced us to many diverse flavors. Wondered how much delightful Azerbaijani cuisine must be? Sharing my recent experience at Baku Café in City Walk which serves Azerbaijani cuisine.
Many things to get impressed, as you walk in you are escorted to the first floor. The décor is eye catching with a very impressive interior, even if you have your own choices of color schemes and interior décor. But the interior setting with rustic color scheme & a touch of tradition and display of attractive jars and spices is appealing to eyes.
Big glass window gives an outer view of City Walk. Smart service and well informed attendant is another added point for a good dining experience which we had here.
About the food …… What is new here? Other than the traditional Azerbaijani dishes, what makes it interesting is chicken , lamb and herbs & spices etc are all imported from Azerbaijan.
And keeping in mind the regional tastes and Emirati culture & choices , special care has been taken to prepare the dishes which should satisfy the local customers as well.
The finest and freshly baked bread was our first item which we enjoyed eating with a special cream & herb dip.
Who wouldn’t want to try the herbs and ingredients imported direct from the origin being added in their salads & dishes. Those specialties which we tried ……
Salad:
‘ Salad of Baku Tomatoes & Red Onions’ . …… but the salad was much more rich & innovative than the name says. It actually had a very tasty seasoning which was done by using dogwood & cherry sauce. Small bits of cherries, special green herbs , fresh tomatoes and above all the dressing with cornel cherries made this salad so special.
Starters:
Gyurza ……. Similar to dimsums, dough stuffed with lamb meat , it is either boiled or fried , choice is yours ! We had both, I liked the steamed ones. Again the dipping cream is served with it.
Mains:
Chicken Tabaka …. Pan fried farm chicken ….. chicken is imported from Azerbaijan , must try this fresh juicy chicken with skin on & full of flavors. Big chicken pieces served with baby potatoes, cherry tomatoes and garnished with pomegranate.
Turshu Govurma …… lamb chunks in delicious juices mixed with chestnut, onions & dried plums which are richly garnished with dried apricots and raisins.
The combination is ideal with rice which is cooked in their own style.
Desserts:
Baklava tasted very good, was different in taste from that of baklava which we eat.
Azerbaijani Tea …… Herb infused Azerbaijani tea was great to end up our meals. Another interesting item we tried were the milk & walnut cubes. We were mistaken with brown sugar whereas those were cubes made of crushed walnuts and milk to add more delight in your tea.
Do try the restaurant for a comfortable family dining experience and late opening hours.
