The Art of Thai Culinary 2016
Discover Thainess through authentic Thai Cuisine
The Art of Thai Culinary project was initiated by the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Dubai to create awareness of authentic Thai dishes in UAE cooked by Thai chefs as well as support restaurants in Dubai that serve good standard Thai dishes. Last year, qualified chefs competed for the authenticity, taste and perfection of Pad Thai and Tom Yum Kung.
Thai food perhaps established its recognition worldwide for its herbal ingredients and delicate cooking process which contribute to the attractiveness for the senses, combinations of flavors and healthiness of each dish. The aromatic herbs, the heat of Thai chillies are a feast for the senses.
With support from Tourism Authority of Thailand ( Dubai), Thai Airways International, Dubai and the The Thai Professional Culinary Club in Dubai and the Northern Emirates , 2 signature Thai dishes were chosen for 2016 contest. Theses dishes were ‘’Gang Khiao Wan’’ green curry and ‘’Pad Kra Prao ‘’( stir-fried meat with Thai holy basil). The event was organized on Sunday 27 March 2016 at Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
On 18th July 2016, dignitaries, professionals in F&B industry and media attended The Art of Thai Culinary 2016 to experience Thai cuisine and witness the award ceremony for 6 talented Thai chefs .
We had the pleasure of attending this prestigious event. A grand buffet lunch was arranged at Beachcombers restaurant in Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The grandeur of Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the sparkling pool view , over looking Burj al Arab combined with the serenity of Beachcombers hotel itself makes an idyllic ambiance. As we walked in, the restaurant was overwhelmed by the aroma of Thai herbs and live cooking demos. A wide spread of dishes was seen in the buffet. The live fruit carving smartly done by the expert female staff gathered attention of the crowd.
Being a fan of Thai cuisine , I was totally indulged in different Food Stations. To start with soups they had Tom Yam Prawn Soup, Tofu & Seaweed Soup. I chose Tom Yam and enjoyed its lusciousness.
Thai salads are always so wholesome mostly done with meat, noodles & veggies. You get over stuffed just by eating the salads alone.
Mixed salad station had Green Papaya Salad, Mixed Mushroom Salad, Spicy Squid with Lemongrass Salad, Thai Chilli with Shrimp Paste Dipping Sauce Salad, Bamboo Shoot Salad, Grilled Marinated beef Salad, Pomelo Salad, Spicy Minced Chicken Salad,Thai Glass Noodle Salad,
In stir fried live cooking station the most delectable item was Stir Fried Mixed Seafood with Thai basil Leaves, others which I enjoyed the most were Steamed Fish with Garlic Lemon & Chilli Sauce and Thai Fried Rice with Chilli Paste.
At curry station we had Thai Chicken Green Curry which was so amazing in flavor. Other specialties were….. Roasted Chicken with Thai Herbs, Stir Fried Beef with Fresh Chilli, Sweet & Sour Egg, Thai Duck Red Curry, & Phad Thai.
Splendid lay of desserts included….. Strawberry Triffle, Med-Kha-Noon ( sweet beans paste), Chow-Kouy (black jelly in sugar syrup), White Chocolate Cake, Black Sticky Rice, Chocolate Cake, Mango Cheese Cake, Tub-Tim-Krob ( water cashew nut in coconut milk), Lychee Agar-Agar, Cream Caramel, Fruit Cake, Woon-Ka-Ti-Bai-Toey (pandan agar-agar), Chocolate Banana Pudding, Plum Slice Cake, Coffee Cake, & Cassava with Coconut.
