19 works of art will be on display throughout the summer at the hotel’s
Plantation Restaurant & Terrace
From the 3rd June to 31st August, Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach will be hosting “Shadows of Ramadan” exhibition featuring art from Jordanian sculptors Bassam Al Selawi and Maysoon Masalha.
Known for their intricate ceramic and resin pieces, when lit from a certain angle, create pictures from the shadows they cast, the artists will be displaying 19 works, of which 14 have never been exhibited previously. The shadow sculptures combine modern techniques with Arabic calligraphy and the shadows come to life, bring a completely new dimension to the work.
“We are delighted to be displaying our work in such a busy location. “Shadows of Ramadan” will be at Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach this summer and we encourage everyone to come down to see our new pieces.” said Maysoon Masalha.
Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach is situated along the prime waterfront location of Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), “The Walk” and the new low-rise retail and leisure destination “The Beach”.
Plantation Restaurant & Terrace is known for its award-winning Art & Dine concept where guests can select from a delicious range of European and Mediterranean dishes, cooked and served in traditional cast iron pots known in France as ‘Cassolette’ or ‘Cocotte’. The method of cooking is very popular in homes across France and is nourishing and comforting. The restaurant provides a stunning backdrop to many prestigious art exhibitions all year round from local and international artists and “Shadows of Ramadan” is no exception.
We had the pleasure of having dinner last week while enjoying the mesmerizing shadow art and light work. Sculptures at display truly enthralls when you deeply observe the sculpture and the light effect given to it in order to make a shadow, which are meaningful depicting UAE culture and Islamic signs and names of Allah & prophet.
We were given a very warm welcome by the entire staff .
Plantation restaurant has an indoor as well as outdoor sitting arrangement, provides you with a calm ambience and as mentioned above the food is served in special serving pots. As we were fasting, after having breaking fast with dry fruits, our selected starter from the menu was served, we were guided well by Vineet and enjoyed the pan seared scallops with fennel puree, green apples, celery, cucumber brunoise, crispy brioche with saffron dressing……. I would recommend to try this scallops dish named Saint Jacques….. country bread was served to us with different dips and Truffle flavored butter, Olive Tapenade, & Sundried Tomato Dip. Mediterranean Salad was a sized rich platter of pepper crusted tuna loin, green beans, new potatoes, anchovies, kalamata olives, romaine lettuce in lemon olive oil….. very tempting & filling at the same time. Main course selection was …
1. Blanquette de Poulet ….. it was a delectable dish of creamy chicken stew, mushrooms and seasonal vegetables with black truffle shavings. The creamy gravy tasted extremely good.
2. Haricot de mouton ….. it was New Zealand braised lamb shank, white beans and rosemary olive oil. This combination of braised shank with white beans has always been my favorite, soft mildly flavored beans with juicy soft meat mixed together adds great pleasure to your dining… must try it here!
Although we were filled up enough with the food, but greedily me and my son ordered our own separate desserts for ourselves as we could not resist after going through the dessert menu.
Their gorgeous and well presented Signature Praline consists of Almond Hazelnut praline, lemon compote and raspberries with lavender honey sauce.
The other creativity in dessert was Chocolate Fondant with an adorable mini poached baby pear served with hazelnut praline ice cream.
Both these desserts were truly delicious with equally nice presentation.
After ending up with green tea , we took a round and capture the beauty at the terrace ,one can spend hours sitting outside where special Ramadan tents are set for families and groups to relax and unwind under the tall building and JBR views.
